Susan Watts-Taffe
Independent Literacy Researcher
Dr. Susan Watts-Taffe holds a B.S. in Exceptional and Elementary Education from the State University College of New York at Buffalo and an Ed.M. and Ph.D. in Reading Education from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She has experience as a special education teacher and a reading diagnostician. She has written numerous articles for journals such as The Reading Teacher, Language Arts, and the Journal of Literacy Research and serves on the editorial review board of Reading Research Quarterly. Dr. Watts-Taffe has also written several book chapters and co-authored the book Essentials of Elementary Reading.
A frequent speaker at state, national, and international conferences, Dr. Watts-Taffe's research interests include vocabulary development, students experiencing difficulty, and teacher professional development, particularly in culturally and linguistically diverse settings. She was recently awarded a grant from the Spencer Foundation to write about her long-term collaboration with teachers and administrators to aid struggling readers in an urban school. Dr. Watts-Taffe was formerly an Associate Professor of Elementary and Literacy Education at the University of Minnesota. Currently, she is an independent literacy researcher and writer.
