Wendy Cheyney

Professor of Special Education,

Dr. Wendy Cheyney holds an Ed.D. in Educational Psychology/Reading from the University of Miami and a M.A. in Speech Pathology and Audiology from the University of Buffalo. Now a Professor of Special Education for the College of Education at Florida International University, Dr. Cheyney previously worked as a teacher of children with learning disabilities and as a speech/language pathologist.

Wendy CheyneyDr. Cheyney's current research includes participation in a five-year longitudinal study of early interventions to improve young children's language and literacy skills. In addition, her program "Building Early Language and Literacy" was chosen as one of the programs to be evaluated by Project Upgrade, a national two-year research study. She is a frequent speaker at reading conferences and has also conducted numerous teacher-training institutes. Her most recent presentations have covered topics related to phonics, phonological awareness, linking oral language to print, and assessment of early literacy.
